In Vitro Antibacterial Effect of Various Berries on Listeria monocytogenes as Food Borne Patogen

نویسندگان

چکیده

Listeria monocytogenes is a food borne pathogen and causes illnesses with high mortality rate in susceptible populations. It often incriminated outbreaks of human listeriosis. Increasing interest the health benefits various berries has led to investigation their antibacterial activity. Causative agent can multiply at refrigerator temperatures, resistant disinfectants, adheres surfaces. Native were assessed for ability inhibit growth bacteria L. monocytogenes. Extracts powder – sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides L.), rosehip (Rosa canina black chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa (Michx.) Elliott), grape marc (Vitis vinifera L.) hawthorn (Crataegus oxyacantha used. All plant materials come from Rudi-Arionești Natural Complex Republic Moldova 2017–2019. In previous studies it been found that buckthorn, rosehip, chokeberry, have antimicrobial effects on pathogenic microorganisms responsible alteration. Bacteria showed varying susceptibilities berry fruits. Antimicrobial properties evaluated using well diffusion method broth dilution method. According results obtained, was most pronounced effect monocytogenes, diameter inhibition zone being 32 mm, followed by samples 26 mm. The minimum concentration (MIC) bactericidal (MBC) determined.

Silver As Antibacterial toward Listeria monocytogenes

Listeria monocytogenes is a serious foodborne pathogen that can contaminate food during processing and can grow during food shelf-life. New types of safe and effective food contact materials embedding antimicrobial agents, like silver, can play an important role in the food industry. The present work aimed at evaluating the in vitro growth kinetics of different strains of L. monocytogenes in th...

Inhibition of Listeria monocytogenes by food-borne yeasts.

Many bacteria are known to inhibit food pathogens, such as Listeria monocytogenes, by secreting a variety of bactericidal and bacteriostatic substances. In sharp contrast, it is unknown whether yeast has an inhibitory potential for the growth of pathogenic bacteria in food. A total of 404 yeasts were screened for inhibitory activity against five Listeria monocytogenes strains. Three hundred and...

Listeria monocytogenes: food-borne pathogen and hygiene indicator.

In the past 25 years, Listeria monocytogenes has become increasingly important as a food-associated pathogen. Most European Union countries have an annual incidence of human listeriosis of between two and ten reported cases per million. Because of its high case fatality rate, listeriosis ranks among the most frequent causes of death due to food-borne illness. Listeria monocytogenes infections a...
